html to rss fast

What to do when you have static web pages and you don’t have RSS (really simple syndication) feeds for them.

While this site was down I did learn quite a few new tools to use to improve Internet Marketing. I wish to share a useful tool. It’s a website which is free and allows you to convert your static HTML pages to RSS feeds.

If the above sentence made no sense then there will be posts later on explaining what those are and how they can be used.

The website is:

icerocket the steps are

  1. When you get there click on the free rss.
  2. If you have not previously registered you have to register.
  3. Then you login.
  4. You create a new channel give it a name and put in  URL and description and save.
  5. You can now add html pages by clicking on new entry.
  6. Add a title, URL, and description and save.
  7. Add a few more URLs and then publish.

Once you publish you get this message from IceRocket: IceRocket will automatically publish your RSS feed, but you need to advertise it on your website. Below is the customized HTML code you can put into your webpage to let others know about it.

And under that you get three choices of rss feeds – the first one tells people you have rss available.

The second I cannot demonstrate here as it has to be placed between the HEAD tags of your HTML document.
The last one will put a button for my Yahoo:
Add to My Yahoo!
Of course you can just submit the RSS feed to RSS aggregators. This what it looks like:
http://rss.icerocket.com/xmlfeed?id=21809

How bad are dot info domins

I started buying lots and lots of dot info sites from Godaddy because they were so cheap. Then I heard that the search engines don’t like them because they know they are cheap.

Even so I still buy them as I need to buy six domains at the same time from Godaddy to get free privacy registration. So it ends up being cheaper if I want to buy two domains to buy two dot com domains and four similar dot info.

Also many domain names still may exist as dot info when the dot com, org and net have long gone.

So I was surprised to note that out of my three domains for the keyword:

Video Driver Updates

the dot info site with no dashes was slightly ahead of the dot com site with dashes inside thus:

The interesting thing is that many of the pages on the dot info were automatically generated. Another interesting thing is that the squidoo lens I built for the same keyword phrase ended up in between the two sites above.

Perhaps all the above sites and pages are in very similar positions since they were made on the same day (more or less). However, the fact that the dot info site is doing OK

The downside of running too many Wordpress blogs on a single database

This site has been down for a few months and the reason was that I had to change my hosting company. I inadvertently ran afoul of one of their rules. It was not done on purpose but was caused by not checking everything as I should have and a typo caused the trouble. I take full responsibility for that. The lesson is that when taking short cuts be even more careful as the slightest error may make you figuratively end up stuck in the mud. That’s what happened to me.

So I had to learn how to move multiple Wordpress blogs from one hosting company to another. As it happened my various mishaps with my blogs in the last year prepared me for the move.

However, when I saved my largest MySQL database by exporting it with phpMyAdmin the download did not go well. The data base was way too large and the last few blogs were lost and I know this is wrong I write most of my posts directly in the Wordpress editor and I do not save what I write so I ended up losing quite a lot of work.

And I suppose that’s why it took me such a long time to restore this blog.

I was just too disappointed to motivate myself to bring all the blogs which could be restored as soon as possible.

Anyway the main lesson is that putting about ten blogs (depending on the number of plugins) on a single MySQL database is great. As well as saving databases (although now-a-days most hosts give you unlimited databases) it means that saving and restoring the databases is easier as there are fewer of them, but don’t put too many Wordpress blogs on a single database.

How to use that PLR material

Most people who are at all into Internet marketing of any kind have lots of PLR (private label rights) materials on their hard drives, DVDs, CDs and other recording media.

Perhaps you, like me, have gigabytes of the stuff and you either do nothing with them (saying manana) or you abuse them by putting them on your websites, as articles on article sites (and then wonder why the article was rejected), try to sell them to no buyers.

First of all manana (tomorrow – June 1, 2009) I’m going to give you some free PLR materials for joining my email list (I’ll give you more free materials at least twice a month). However, as I mentioned having the PLR stuff alone is not going to do you any good. So I’m going to teach you how to use what I give you.

So here are some suggestions of what to do with the private label rights material you have and you’ll get from me:

  1. Before you do anything read the rights document to see what rights do have. If it is truly PLR you have absolute rights to the material and can do anything. At times people give you something between MRR and PLR and I’ll explain the differences in another post.
  2. Once you know you have enough rights that it’s worth your while to work with the first thing is: change the title .
  3. Correct the English – OK I’m dyslexic and will have typos that I’ll leave in without noticing. But many of the PLR articles appear to be written by people whose first language is not English. In many cases the English is more like (bad) term papers rather than simple every day English.
  4. Now change the format. So for example read it and make audios from it (change the language as you are reading) or make videos of the material. You can take small parts of ebooks and redo them as articles or combine many articles on the same subject to make an ebook.
  5. Potentially alter the graphics – if ebook and change the sales page if it came with one.

The above suggestions for change can be summarised in one idea:

Make it your own!

Keyword stuffing

One great way to keep up with the latest information on any subject you are interested in or have a web site on is to use Google alerts. I’ll write about that later on.

I have a cosmetic surgery blog and so I have a Google alert on plastic surgery and one on breast augmentation . This morning I was looking at one of these and I noticed an entry: "buy breast augmentation pharmacy online india in Oviedo breast augmentation cheap cod cheap breast augmentation by fedex cod buy in Valencia"

I was curious and I went there and at the top there was an ad for an online product which got you to an affiliate link of an online pharmacy selling all sorts of product the spammers sell you for erectile dysfunction and so on.

The interesting thing was that there were many astrixes (*) beneath the ad. So I followed on and saw keyword stuffing. I looked at the source code (Ctrl+u for Firefox and I imagine other browsers) and noticed:

*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /> <br />
*<br /><br /><br /><br /> <br />
buy breast augmentation pharmacy online india  in Oviedo<br /> <br />
breast augmentation cheap cod<br /> <br />

It went on and on mixing the keywords breast, buy and augmentation and then there would be some affiliate links and more of the same.

This is keyword stuffing and is black hat SEO (search engine optimization). You should never do that. You may get a tiny advantage for a short time but you will get caught by the search engines and you will be penalized – deindexed which means all your pages will be removed from the search engine.

The spammers do not care about such things because they keep changing domains and rely on potentially going up on page one of Google or another search engine for a few days and seling their junk and moving on to the next domain.

I did some research using WHOIS (tells you the owners of a website) and the site itself is a perfectly legetimate IT consoulting site with some courses. I don’t know enough about moodle – I know moodle is an educational open source program. It is something akin to a specialized blog or wiki for teaching.

So in this case I imagine the spammer has registered for free and is using the moodle for black hat SEO. That’s really nasty. Anyway, I believe in Karma and cannot emphasize enough that black hat SEO does not pay in the long run.

Now, that I know what is going on my suggestion is that if you have any type of blog, bulletin board, moodle or similar sites where people can post thing make sure you monitor so that people cannot use your site for spamming.

By their works they shall be known

I have recently started a project to examine internet marketing from a spiritual point of view. This is a long term project and in the meanwhile I’m doing other projects as well.

One project is to make some WordPress Secrets videos. The first part of this video series shows you how to save resources by putting multiple WordPress blogs on a single MySQL database.

In order to do that I needed a cheap hosting service with little resources for my demo. I found a place which appeared perfect. You got a low resource free host if you registered your domain with them.

I started the registration process but everything took such a long time that I found a free site which will do all I want. Eventually I decided to give up with the hosting company based on the idea that if their response time is so slow, it is going to be slow as my hosting company so the free site is being used and as soon as the video is ready I’ll let you know how to get it.

Coincidentally if the free host os good, I’ll let you know. I’m not letting you know about the slow host.

Start Making Money With Adsense

By now, Banners and skyscrapers are dead. Surfers typically ignore these kinds of ad formats now-a-days, because that they are recognized as adverts and adverts are rarely of any interest. So people ignore them.

So what is the easiest way to monetize (make money) from your web site? Use Google Adsense. You can start earning money with Adsense easily and quickly. You’ll be amazed at the results you will be getting in a short period of time of concentrated effort.

Start by writing some quality content articles which have relevant keywords. You can write the articles yourself or use PLR (private label rights) or freelancers to write your articles for you.

There are actually three things to think about before you begin writing your ads and having an effective Adsense:

  1. Keyword search. Find some popular subjects, keywords or phrase. Select the ones which you think has more people clicking through. I’ll write about this and other needed things later. For now know that you should do your keyword research in a topic that you like and know at least a little about. Later as you become good in writing articles in any subject you can branch out.
  2. Writing articles. Start writing original content with keywords from the topics that you have achieved in your search. Search engines look for quality articles and write with that in mind.
  3. Quality content site . A quality content site is a targeted site specializing in one subject. Your original research in keyword research comes in here.

The proper positioning of your ads should be done with care. Try to position your ads where surfers are most likely to click on them. According to research, the one place that surfers look first when they visit a certain site is the top left .

To really start making money with Adsense, you should have a definite focus on a single topic and have a goal in mind. As with any other kind of business ventures, time patience will win out.

Give it a try and you would not regret having gotten into Adsense in the first place. It is very easy to pay for your hosting cost if you have a single blog and then you can go from there to make even more by other monetization methods.

Spiritual Internet Marketing

This morning as I was exercising I was reading a book by the Dalai Lama called "Becoming Enlightened." The second chapter is: "Comparing Religions." As I was reading this chapter I got lots of ideas about a product based on transformative imagination which is my creation based on hypnotherapy, NLP, teaching stories , and wisdom traditions from all over the world.

Of course one aspect or the starting point of Spiritual Internet Marketing is giving service. I believe with many wise marketers that the best way of achieving long term abundance is to deliver more than asked for.

As Napoleon Hill wrote in his seminal book, "Think and Grow Rich:"

  • The best way of increasing your salary is to do more than you are being paid for

This is true in marketing. When you serve and give more, your business will prosper. It is a simple application of the law of Karma (action) which basically says: "Actions have consequences."

This is my first post about Spiritual Internet Marketing. I’ll start working on the products soon (as soon as I post this article).

Watch this space….

Above the fold

The term above the fold comes from print media – newspapers to be precise. The typical full size broadsheet newspaper (as opposed to the tabloid which is a size but got associated with sensational journalism in the USA) comes folded with the headline at the top and all ads above the fold on the first page cost much more.

The same concept can go for websites. Above the fold is the top section of a page that you see without scrolling down. This is the most important part of a page. You either keep you visitor by what the see above the fold or they leave.

I’m going to do an experiment in this site by giving more space above the fold to the content by making the header shorter.

I did this by editing the appropriate section of the Wordpress theme css (cascading style sheet). I do not know what this does as far as the SEO (search engine optimization is concerned). A decent search engine algorithm would take this issue into consideration.

Hey Google bot are you listening?

Unfortunately Google bot is not that intelligent yet. However, human beings are and this experiment will show if it works or not. It is difficult because it is an experiment and thanks to content duplication penalty I cannot have the identical website with only difference being the size of the header.

How to get people join your mailing list by giving things away

We all know that email list building is one of the most important aspects of Internet Marketing. One great way to get people join your list is to give away free digital products. These can be your own products, or PLRs (private label rights) which you may give away as is or with value added (changed slightly, packaged).

I’ll soon in fact offer you some free gifts for joining the mailing list on this web site. I’m first making sure I have enough content on this site.

There is a way of multiplying this list building system for the mutual benefits of all Internet Marketers and mailing list owners. This method is commonly called a “Give Away venture” or “Give Away Event.”

The way it works is: a group of mailing list owners partner together and pool in their individual gifts in a single limited-time event.

Each participating partner contributes a gift to the event. The gift can be a free product, membership pass or a product he is already selling (if he is kind enough to offer into the event).

The partner prepares a Lead Capture Page where he gives the gift in exchange for the subscriber’s email address. In other words, in order for a visitor to download the digital gift, he must opt in and subscribe to your mailing list.

The gifts are pooled together into one site, and each participant will then endorse the Give Away event to their own mailing lists. Therefor lots of visitors will come one event as a collective effort of several participating partners!

With so many visitors downloading multiple gifts from a single event. So the visitors download many free gifts for their own use and each partner in the venture gets to build their own mailing list. Thus, the list building venture is a true win-win-win situation

To find appropriate Give Away event you can communicate with other Internet Marketers or by participating in Internet Marketing discussion and Joint Venture boards.

However, remember first you need to have your own list of your own so you can send people to the “Give Away Venture.”
